For the 250th anniversary of the United States we are celebrating the strength of the American mustang.
Mustangs are are celebrated as living symbols of the powerful spirit of the American West. Our mustang herd has their own story of freedom and resilience. Thirty-two mustangs came to the sanctuary over the course of several rescues beginning in 2012. They were part of local hoarding investigations by County of San Diego Animal Services. All the mustangs were emaciated and in the worst possible conditions.
By August 18, 2012 we had acquired the use of eight acres of land adjoining our sanctuary. This allowed us to accept the horses and give them a place to live in a near native area as a mustang herd. All of our mustangs have Kumeyaay names in honor of the the native land where they roam.
We were the only alternative to euthanasia considered for these horses. We provided them with food, medical care, and quality care. We are so proud that we were able to give them this safe haven.
These horses have gone through unimaginable pain, but through adversity and love, they now live quality lives.
In the spirit of freedom, join us in celebrating these beautiful horses and horses across the country who deserve a safe place to call home.
