Beavers are one of nature's most powerful environmental engineers and in the Cache la Poudre River Watershed, they're allies we can't afford to overlook. By slowing water through stream corridors, their dams recharge groundwater and release it gradually through dry summer months, acting as natural reservoirs in our semi-arid landscape. The lush, saturated meadows they create resist wildfire, buffer floods, filter sediment from our drinking water supply, and support an extraordinary diversity of wildlife ? from native cutthroat trout to migratory birds.
