Drew was diagnosed with Epilepsy at 5 years old. He started having seizures out of the blue, and in the middle of Kindergarten. We learned that Drew has complex partial seizures (aka focal onset impaired awareness). Throughout the years, Drew has been on 5 different anti-epileptic medications to help control his seizures. Currently, he takes two anti-epileptic medications and also medication to treat ADHD. Unfortunately, Drew still has breakthrough seizures. Because he has intractable, or uncontrolled seizures, we are in the process of pre-surgical evaluation. Drew has had to undergo many doctors appointments and many tests. He will continue to endure more in hopes of finding a better treatment and a better outlook for his future.
Our team is called Drew's Warriors because Drew is a fighter. Meriam-Webster defines "Warrior" as a brave or experienced soldier or fighter. That is 100% Drew! He is strong and very brave. He has faced so many challenges and adversity in his young life. He never gives up! His family and friends join his fight against Epilepsy. We are Drew's Warriors!
Drew attends Frederick High School in Frederick, CO and the mascot is a (Native American) "Warrior." We found it fitting to call ourselves "Drew's Warriors!"
