We are proud to share this year?s CCGC Kid-Designed Tee, created by Grace, who recently met with us to talk a little about her design and the story behind it.
Grace is 15 years old and has a grounded presence and a clear sense of her own perspective. She communicates with a level of confidence and insight that really stands out. However, when she first heard about it, she wasn?t sure if the CCGC T-shirt design contest was for her. She explained that she didn?t know if she had a good design idea or if she was the right age to participate. With encouragement from her CCGC clinician, Christine Tomlin, Grace decided to give it a try.
Grace shared that she wanted to create something that would be ?easy for people to look at? while also allowing her to experiment with abstract lines and shapes. She especially enjoyed finding a way to bring the words ?Accept All? together visually, much like the people holding hands in the design itself.
When asked what inspired the theme of inclusivity and togetherness, Grace explained that she used to feel more close-minded and ?picky? about who she spent time with. Over time, and through meeting more people, she realized she had more in common with others than she expected. ?I started to learn they were more like me than I thought,? she shared, later adding this advice for others: ?Don?t assume you know what other people are like until you get to know them.?
Grace also spoke warmly about her time at CCGC and the connection she has built with her clinician, Christine. ?I feel like I can talk to her about my day, and everything going on at school. She definitely listens.? Grace shared that she has felt supported throughout her time here.
When asked if she had advice for other young people seeking services, she immediately responded, ?Don?t settle!? She spoke about the importance of finding a therapist who is the right fit for your personality and needs. ?When you find the right therapist, you?re gonna know,? she said, adding that Christine has been that person for her.
Outside of art, Grace enjoys swinging in her backyard and spending time with her golden retriever, Lola. We are so proud of Grace, her creativity, and the thoughtful message behind her design, and we are excited to share her artwork with the CCGC community.
Proceeds from the purchase of Grace's Tee will benefit CCGC's Outpatient Counseling Center, allowing for the purchase of toys, therapeutic resources, and other items to enhance therapy sessions and create a welcoming environment for all.
