This design is a cut from one of my larger paintings, layered with the motif of playing cards and rooted in Persian Sufi art. Iranian sculptor Parviz Tanavoli gave heech form through his sculpture, and Rumi?s ancient poetry teaches that nothingness is not absence, but the surrender of self in order to reach God. For me, this piece is a constant reminder of that paradox: the death of ego is what gives birth to true presence.
