Cancer doesn?t just change one life?it changes an entire family.
Just a short time ago, my big sister, Jessica, was doing what she?s always done: taking care of everyone else. As a caregiver for senior citizens, she has spent her life helping others through some of their hardest days. She has always been the first person to show up, lend a hand, or put someone else?s needs before her own. Asking for help is something she has never been comfortable doing.
Then, in an instant, everything changed.
Jessica was recently diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer that has spread beyond her colon. Since her diagnosis, she?s endured painful procedures, countless doctor visits, hospital stays, and is preparing for the fight of her life. The pain has often been unbearable, and every day brings new challenges that no one should ever have to face.
Through it all, she continues to think about her children before herself.
Jessica is the proud mother of five beautiful daughters. Her two youngest are just 16 and 4 years old. Her youngest, Alicia, is nonverbal autistic and requires around-the-clock care and daily therapy appointments. Jessica has always been Alicia?s voice, her safe place, her comfort, and her fiercest advocate. Every mother dreams of being there for her children as they grow. Right now, Jessica is fighting with everything she has to make sure she can. Because of her diagnosis, Jessica is no longer able to work and provide for her family. While she fights cancer, life doesn?t pause. Medical bills continue to mount, and everyday necessities like rent, groceries, utilities, transportation, and medications have become an overwhelming burden. Insurance only stretches so far, and no family should have to choose between lifesaving treatment and keeping food on the table. As her little sister, this is one of the hardest things I?ve ever had to write. I?ve always looked up to Jessica. She?s the one who has spent her life taking care of everyone else, and now it?s our turn to take care of her. If love alone could heal cancer, she would already be cured. But since I can?t take this battle away from her, I?m asking for your help.
Every donation?no matter the amount?will go directly toward Jessica?s medical expenses and helping provide stability for her daughters while she undergoes treatment. If you?re unable to donate, sharing her story is just as meaningful. Every share gives her story another chance to reach someone who can help.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for every prayer, every message, every share, and every act of kindness. During the darkest days of our lives, you?ve reminded us that we are not alone.
People often say it takes an army to win a war.
Jessica doesn?t have an army.
She has something even more fitting.
She has a Navy fleet.
A fleet never leaves one of its own behind. It sails together through calm seas and raging storms alike. Every prayer is another hand on deck. Every donation helps keep her family afloat. Every share sends another ship to her side.
As long as she keeps fighting, her Navy fleet will be right there beside her?steady, strong, and unwavering?until she reaches calmer waters.
