Less than 360 North Atlantic Right Whales remain.
The North Atlantic Right Whale population has been declining for decades as they continue to face human-induced threats. The two leading causes of mortality and injury in North Atlantic Right Whales are entanglements in fishing gear and vessel strike injuries.
2024 has already proven to be a challenging year for this critically endangered species. The first calf of the season was struck and killed by a vessel. A juvenile female washed ashore following a chronic entanglement in fishing gear from the Maine Lobster fishery. Another juvenile was found dead following a vessel strike injury. With such a low population abundance, any loss of life is devastating.
Turtle Island Restoration Network (TIRN) is committed to the fight to save the last remaining North Atlantic Right Whales. Join us and show your support by purchasing a shirt and sharing the plight of this critically endangered species!
